Schedules

FlightFormation Docs Image

Schedules are how to automatically switch between different formations based on the time of day and day of the week. Think of them as a way to autoscale your dynos based on when you expect traffic to be high or low. You can have as many schedules as you like. When a scheduled day/time is met it will take over controlling your resources by deploying the formation selected, until the next schedule occurs.

Creating a recurring schedule

Creating a recurring schedule is easy, just click the "Create new schedule" button at your application's "Schedules" tab, and fill out the form.
Here is a quick demonstration of how to schedule a basic "Weekday" and "Weekend" schedule.

Creating more recurring schedules

Let's make another schedule for nights, where we will scale down our dynos to save costs. Also - check out the weekly schedule visualizer to see how things will look for the week.

Creating a one-time schedule

One-time schedules are useful if you know you will have a spike in traffic, like a product launch, or marketing campaign. One-time schedules will temporarily override any recurring schedules you have set up and will return to the previous schedule after the one-time schedule is over. See it in action below.
